Inline profile measurement for round materials

Inline-Profilmessung für Rundmaterialien

The new profileGAUGE C.ODC is a precise sensor system for two-axis profile, diameter, and position measurement of ultra-fine wires and round materials. This measuring system is specifically designed for inline measurement tasks in industrial processes: Two optoCONTROL 2700 precision micrometers are pre-assembled, aligned, and wired in an X-arrangement. Measurement takes place simultaneously on two axes, precisely and reliably detecting diameter, contour, and position. The customer can flexibly process and utilize the measured values via the control system or a higher-level evaluation system.

Precise diameter measurement starting at 30 µm
The profileGAUGE C.ODC enables non-contact diameter measurements starting at 30 µm. A key advantage is active inclination correction: tilting of the measured object is detected, and the measured values are automatically adjusted to the actual orientation. This effectively prevents measurement deviations caused by tilting. The inclination correction operates at the full measuring rate of 5 kHz and is available for measurement programs for outer diameters, wire, and contour measurement. Thanks to the optical measuring principle, transparent objects such as glass or plastic can also be reliably measured.

Focus on synchronization and process reliability
Measurement data can be recorded either synchronously or asynchronously. In synchronous mode, the profileGAUGE C.ODC simultaneously delivers values for both axes, enabling highly precise position determinations such as centerline positions during motion. The integrated soiling detection identifies even the smallest contaminants both on the glass plates and within the measurement field, and can output the states “Clean,” “Restricted,” and “Soiled” to prevent measurement errors. A protective glass is available as an option to protect the optical system from damage in harsh environments. In addition, an air purge collar can be used to blow the beam path clear, ensuring that foreign particles do not affect the measurement result. For easy automation integration, the common fieldbus interfaces EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, or PROFINET are available; standard protocols such as TCP, UDP, and FTP are also supported.
